Clipped Planchet Washington Quarter Error
Clipped planchet errors occur when the die clips the planchet or coin cutting a rounded segment into it.
As we say in other locations it almost looks like someone took a giant whole punch to the coin.
Clipped planchet errors happen on all coin types, not just Washington Quarters as show above. All years and all types.
Certified Clipped Planchet errors coins are safer to buy than non certified, as the error is fairly easy to fabricate if given a regular coin and the proper tools.
Companies like PCGS and NGC can spot fakes and deny the certification.
